Sepulveda Basin Nature Explorers leads Van Nuys families straight into the Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve to spot herons, turtles, and the occasional coyote track along the LA River. Guide Hollis teaches kids to observe quietly and read animal signs, turning every walk into a real field-biology lesson. Bring binoculars — muddy sneakers are guaranteed.

This has become the highlight of our week. after class my kid told grandma all about it on FaceTime that night. The Woodley Ave lot by the basin has plenty of space most days. We'll be back every session.
Guide Hollis is great, and overall we're really happy here. A couple sessions felt rushed, but overall my kid is identifying three basin birds on their own and having fun.
Solid class, kid loves going every week. My kid is slowly using the binoculars to find a bird on their own, and the Woodley Ave lot by the basin has plenty of space most days. Only reason it's not five stars is the class can feel a little crowded some weeks.
Solid class, kid loves going every week. My kid is slowly spotting a turtle before anyone else in the group, and weekend parking near Balboa Blvd gets crowded but there's usually a spot within a block. Only reason it's not five stars is the schedule shifted once this session without much notice.
Guide Hollis is nice enough, though communication about schedule changes could be better. My kid still enjoys it and is slowly skipping a rock across the water on their own, but a couple of classes have been cancelled last minute with short notice.
Guide Hollis has so much patience, my kid begged to sign up for another session immediately after the very first class.
Guide Hollis is fantastic with the kids — my kid went from nervous to spotting a turtle before anyone else in the group in just a few weeks. Weekend parking near Balboa Blvd gets crowded but there's usually a spot within a block. We'll be back every session.
